Regional Migrant Parent Retreat

Twenty-seven Migrant Parents, representing 18 School Districts & four staff members traveled to Asilomar Conference Grounds to participate in the first Regional Migrant Parent retreat for District Regional Representatives to Region V Advisory Committee. The purpose of the Retreat was for all members to receive training in:

  • Knowing your role as a District Representative to the Regional Advisory committee
  • Knowing Migrant Education – Laws & Services
  • Knowing the roles of each standing Sub-committee & selecting one in which you will participate
  • Learning how to make presentations
  • Learning basic computer techniques.
  • Introduction to power point
  • Learning Project P.A.D.R.E. (Parents Around the Districts in the Region Educating)

  • migParThree: Migrant Education guidelines stipulate the program receives input from parents on how best to deliver services to Migrant children. Districts in Region V form Migrant advisory Committees. They elect two parents to represent their District at the Regional Migrant Parent Advisory Committee.

    migParOne: The Regional Advisory Committee meets between six to eight times during the school year. The four standing sub-committees each meet three to four times during the year. The sub-committees are the workhorses that report to the general membership. The general public is invited to attend any Regional Parent Advisory meeting.
