Region V Honoree's
Region V would like to recognize Jose Arreola, Marcos Ramírez & Jorge GarciaEach year, the State Department of Education – Migrant Section requests each migrant region to select a Student of the Year, Parent of the Year, and Alumni of the Year. The honorees are presented at the Annual State Migrant Conference. This year honorees for Kern County Superintendent of Schools Migrant Program Region V are:
Student of the Year:
Jorge Luis Garcia
McFarland High School
Jorge is a senior at McFarland High School with a 3.97 G.P.A. He comes from a family of nine, he and his parents moved into this county two years ago. He will be attending California State University Bakersfield with a major in Computer Engineering.
Jorge is dedicated to his academics because he wants to be successful. He is able to juggle all his course work, part time job and still continue to be at the top of his class.
All teachers, counselors, students and administrate have nothing but positive remarks to say about him.
Alumni of the Year:
Marcos Ramirez
Delano Union Elementary School District
Marcos is presently the migrant coordinator at Delano Union Elementary School District. He has been an educator for over 30 years. He has served as a reading teacher, bilingual teacher, Resource Teacher, Vice Principal, and Principal.
He was born in Mexico. Marcos was 12 years old when his family immigrated to the United States. While attending school, he worked in agriculture during the summers and vacation. Attended and graduated from California State University, Bakersfield. In all his endeavors as educator, he has always worked in schools where the large majority of students were from migrant families.

Mr. Arreola is a perfect example of a parent who has implemented all of this learned knowledge attained through Migrant Education to the benefit of his children and all migrant families in McFarland, Region V, and the State.
He strives to reach all parents and motivate them to participate in the education of their children. He personally invites parents and many times takes them to school events. Mr. Arreola is involved in:
